
Don van der Zwaag
Don is a senior consultant with ROCG which is an international professional service and consulting firm with offices throughout North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. ROCG is the only international firm specializing in the areas of business transition strategy, finance, and operations for privately owned and emerging growth enterprises.
Don is a graduate of Grand Valley State University and also graduated from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan with an MBA in Operations Research. While completing his masters work in Ann Arbor, Don was a research analyst employed by the University’s Transportation Research Institute, where he wrote several articles for their publications.
His diversified professional work experiences include; experience as a computer systems analyst for a large international footwear manufacturer, management consultant for a large international CPA firm, as well as roles in finance, operations, and executive leadership in a Michigan based designer and manufacturer of custom packaging and material handling systems for suppliers to the automotive component and electronics industries. Don was instrumental in the formation of an ESOP for this company and also forming an off-shore captive insurance company to save thousands annually in insurance costs. His experience includes service as founding President of a Mexico based division growing that start-up operation to over $12M in sales and three operating plants during a four year period. Prior to his current consulting practice, he also served as the regional administrator for 185 churches in the mid-west region of a North American protestant denomination. There he provided churches with financial, personnel and funding advice.
Since 2007, his consulting experiences have primarily been focused at providing start-up and turn-around advice to manufacturing businesses. He has established a successful track record with bankers and other investors in these companies.
Don’s extensive experience in Human Resources includes hiring and training, position descriptions and performance evaluation. In addition, he has coordinated the formation of wholly owned foreign subsidiaries in eight countries as well as coordinated the international accounting and legal requirements for a company chartered in Hong Kong. Don’s experience is largely within private family owned and managed companies. His experience has been helpful to those families by bringing an objective outside perspective focused on successful business operating strategies. He has spent much of his career successfully navigating the challenges associated with making those difficult decisions and implementing systems necessary to be successful in today’s environment.
These past experiences have given Don an extensive expertise in cash flow forecasting and management advice, and he offers business owners the ability for him to serve as an interim manager in the areas of Chief Financial Officer, Controller and/or General Manager for their companies.
Don is married to Wilma and they have two children, David and Julie, and two grand-children. Don has served as Lt. Governor of Michigan Kiwanis and has served in various leadership capacities in other charitable or civic organizations. Don’s hobbies are golfing, watching college football, and playing with their grand-children
