Attorney/Lawyer

Get the most for your client while enhancing your contribution

It’s a wonderful feeling when you can do something that enhances your relationship with your client. When your client can see that your referral has led them onto safer ground where their objectives are being realized. That is what happens when you bring ROCG in as a coordinating agent. We are not lawyers, but we work to enhance the client/attorney relationship by leading you to perform additional value-added services. And because we are an objective third party agent, you can never be accused of generating extra revenues by making work for yourself.

ROCG sheds light on your client’s situation from both a local perspective and a global perspective. That is part of our motto: Global Consultants, Local Experience. Translation: every eventuality is thought out in advance, paving the way for a smooth transition.

In family situations there is always the possibility of conflict and hurt feelings that can result in a lifetime of strained relations. ROCG has the experience to work with families, often designing solutions that avoid family disputes and result in satisfying agreements all around.

Working with ROCG you will see that we perform quite a number of valuable services for your client. We insist they be realistic in their expectations. We establish benchmarks and hold the client accountable to meeting set dates and results. (You will be surprised how grateful clients are to have this “pressure” put on them. They love to see the progress that they have achieved.) And you, as the attorney, will grow in knowledge in a way that allows you to provide the client with a more comprehensive analysis of their situation. Planning is important. It has a direct impact on the value of the client’s business.

Our objective is to leverage your expertise, and knowledge of your client, to provide the best possible transition solutions. You become a key member of the transition team. If required, we would be willing to sign a non-competitive agreement.

Get ROCG involved from the ground floor

Do you have a client that should be planning for the transition of their business? The most useful service you can provide your client is to set up a Discovery Session with an ROCG consultant. The meeting is free. The information is invaluable. You should know that ROCG wants you, as the client’s attorney, to be involved right from the start.

Normally a lawyer is involved in the transaction stage of a transition. By being involved in the planning process you are able to increase your service offerings.

The key to the ROCG business transition success lies in our collaborative approach. We involve all the client’s trusted advisors. No one person has all the answers. In the case of business transition the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. In other words, all the team members provide the client with a richer end product than is achieved by working in isolation.

Your greatest value is in the transaction stage. What the collaborative approach means is that there are a second, and possibly a third, set of eyes to review the agreements. The entire team is on the same page. Everyone knows what the client is looking to get out of this deal. So everyone is pulling in the same direction, utilizing their specialties. ROCG, the quarterback, will ensure that!

Air-tightness is what every legal mind seeks to achieve for their client. The collaborative approach gives you a better chance to reach that ideal.

Your role is not window dressing

As a vital member of the planning and transition team, you would gain access, with the client’s approval, to all the client records and documents of the planning process through a shared document storage system. Being a core member of the ROCG planning and transition team is not a platitude. And at the completion of the plan, your name is included with the rest of the other team professionals in the client’s final business transition report.

When things go wrong

I was recently involved in a transition where there had been no planning or preparation for transition. An individual, in his seventies, had transferred ownership over to two key employees without ensuring that these two employees were prepared to take over. After the transfer of management the business went steadily down hill. The business had been very profitable with a solid financial position. Eventually the company was having difficulty paying its bills. The business owner was anxious to sell the business. They approached a customer who agreed to purchase the business, but only for the value of the assets. He would not pay anything for goodwill, even though this company had sales of approximately $15,000,000. Had proper planning been done in the beginning it is very likely this business owner would have received much more for his business and experienced a lot less stress.
